As Census workers wind down their data collection efforts, notable author and scholar Joel Kotkin predicts the “new America” of 2050. In addition to the majority of the U.S. population being nonwhite, the minority population will be very diverse with large amounts of interracial marriage, says Kotkin in a interview on CNN.com. However, he believes that racial and ethnic categories will be as important then as they are now. So what other major changes await, according to Kotkin? The population of the United States will grow to more than 400 million, people will work at or closer to home and the country will be more energy efficient and economically competitive.
