Artell Smith is Senior Vice-President and Chief Human Resources Officer for Aon Hewitt, a global provider of HR Solutions with 27,000+ employees and $4 Billion in annual revenue. Artell joined the firm in 1997 and brings broad experience across all HR disciplines with a focus in HR strategy, talent management, technology and operations.
Artell is also the People Transformation Leader for Aon Hewitt Navigators. In this role, he has been providing strategic direction for building people programs and operational routines to accelerate the growth of Navigators, a subsidiary business unit of Aon Hewitt that assists Medicare-eligible U.S. citizens in finding supplemental Medicare insurance plans.
Prior to his current role, Artell was Vice President of Human Resources for HR Business Process Outsourcing and HR Global Operations Leader. In his operations role he led technology integration, generalist services, workforce administration and global mobility.
Over his 15-year career at Aon Hewitt, Artell has also served as Chief Learning Officer, Corporate Talent Programs Leader, CAO & CHRO for Sageo, Ltd. (a Hewitt subsidiary), N.A. Benefits Customer Service Operations Leader, and various other internal and client-facing leadership positions.
Artell earned his Master of Public Administration degree from Brigham Young University's Graduate School of Management. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in History and Political Science from BYU.
Artell is married to the former Susan Burns. Artell and Susan have two sons, Preston (21) and Troy (19). Preston is an undergraduate at Carthage College and is majoring in Music. Troy is an undergraduate at University of Wisconsin—Whitewater and is majoring in Psychology. Troy is also a member of the U.S. National Guard. Artell and family live in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
